What are the most famous, most saught after, most used, most ubiqutous, most covered in all of our courses, and probably the most expensive fonts in the world? Helvetica gets first place for sure.

Helvetica Neue LT Std is used just as much, if not more since the 80s. It definitely has some advantages. The font was adapted in to a font family system borrowed from Univers.

Univers LT Std is a personal favourite and even cleaner than Helvetica.

The standardized font family weighting system is extremely useful while you’re mixing fonts together on the same page. It allows you to depend on a consistent x-height, and gives you more control over the more important parts of a text-heavy piece of work without blowing out your dimensions. Now for the real kicker. Both of these fonts, by default, are turned off. I highly recommend you turn them on the next time you’re about to jump in to Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that the most fine tuned type faces in the world are also the most forgiving.
